He's decided:
Anesthesiology!!!
It's been quite the ride in deciding what to do. Starting with something in the ER when we just first started, then a little spout of Surgery (yikes...glad that's over), to Interventional Radiology (IR), to the ICU/Anesthesiology, back to IR, and now anesthesiology at his final answer.
We had it down to a 50/50 between IR and ICU/Anesthesiology last month, just before the applications for residency programs opened. Ryan went to the temple to see if his choice of the ICU/A was the right one. He didn't get the calm peaceful answer he was looking for. So, he made the decision to do IR and took that to the Lord. He got a, "Whatever you feel is right" answer (don't you just love those ones...).
After writing his personal statement on why he wants to be a Radiologist, and finding it really shallow, he knew that IR was just not for him. Then, we decided to take the ICU out of the anesthesiology equation and surprisingly, felt calm.
Now we're only a month behind in the whole application process (it's a meat market out there...and a month is a long time!!!) but we hope that we can now get the ball running. It's been a long road, but I'm happy for Ryan and know that he's going to be great at what he does.
Four years almost done...5+ years to go! Pass over the laughing gas!
